We are searching for a highly motivated candidate to work in a multidisciplinary and international team. The research group “Inflammation” investigates the role of inflammation-related processes in type 2 diabetes. The group characterizes the mechanistic impact of specific biomarkers of subclinical inflammation on the cellular level as and their predictive value for the incidence of type 2 diabetes and its complications in clinical and epidemiological studies (selected recent publications: Diabetes Care 2017;40:569-576; Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol 2017;37:1222-1227; Nat Rev Endocrinol 2018;14:567-568; Diabetes 2018;67:2434-2442; Diabetes Metab Res Rev 2019;35:e3074).

A successful applicant will be responsible for and contribute to:

  • Molecular and cellular studies on the interaction between inflammation and mechanisms related to the development of type 2 diabetes and its complications (e.g. insulin resistance, endothelial dysfunction…).
  • Analyses of transcriptomics and proteomics profiles.
  • Statistical analyses of data (including pathway analysis).
  • Presentation of research results in national/international conferences.
  • Writing publications and grant applications.

We expect:

  • PhD degree/proof of finalized PhD thesis in Biology, Biochemistry or related discipline.
  • Excellent expertise in cell culture (e.g. adipocytes, endothelial cells, hepatocytes) and molecular biology techniques.
  • Expertise and interest in biostatistics.
  • Excellent scientific writing and communication skills in English.
  • Track record of working in an interactive/interdisciplinary team.
  • High affinity for biomedical and translational research.
  • Good organization and decision-making skills.

We offer:

  • The position is to be awarded starting from January 1st, 2020.
  • The initial contract runs for 2 years with an option of prolongation.
  • The salary is based on qualification and experience according to TV-L in its current version for North Rhine-Westphalia.
