The German Diabetes Center (DDZ), Leibniz Institute for Diabetes Research at the Heinrich Heine University (HHU) Düsseldorf is an interdisciplinary research institute that links basic and clinical sciences to improve prevention, diagnosis and therapy of Diabetes mellitus and its complications. The Research Group Energy Metabolism (head: Prof. M. Roden) at the Institute for Clinical Diabetology focuses on prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes, including the effects of exercise on insulin sensitivity

Your profile

  • You must have a PhD or MD degree in the field of Medicine, Biochemistry, Biology, Biomedical Sciences or a related field.
  • You are proficient in conducting clinical trials including performing human experimental studies, experience with exercise and dietary studies, and have good communication skills to interact with volunteers and perform qualitative study.
  • You have good organizational and interpersonal skills and are keen to work in a team.
  • You communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.

Wir erwarten von Ihnen

to join our research group. For this project, we will investigate how exercise and the timing of it can affect muscle metabolism in volunteers at risk for type 2 diabetes. Methodologies to be employed include hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamps, exercise testing, magnetic resonance spectroscopy and indirect calorimetry

Initially, the position is to be awarded for 2 years starting from 01.09.2025 or later. An extension of the contract period is envisaged. The employment contract is governed by TV-L in its current version for North Rhine-Westphalia, including the special regulations regarding the scientific area. The salary is based on qualification and experience, according to TV-L.

Females are especially encouraged to apply, and in the case of equal qualification, handicapped persons will be given preference. The German Diabetes Center is committed to family-friendly working conditions and equal gender policy. Since May 2011, the DDZ is a “Career and Family” audit-acknowledged center.
