Institut für Biometrie und Epidemiologie (Direktor: Univ.-Prof. Dr. sc. hum. Oliver Kuß)

The German Diabetes Center (DDZ), the Leibniz Institute for Diabetes Research at Heinrich Heine University (HHU), in Düsseldorf is funded by the Federal Ministry of Health and Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine Westphalia. The DDZ as an interdisciplinary Institute links molecular and cell biological basic research with clinical and epidemiological investigations.

The DDZ aims to develop new approaches for the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, and to improve the management of its complications. The DDZ is a member of the German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD e.V.).

The Research Group Epidemiology (Head: PD Dr. Sabrina Schlesinger) at the Institute for Biometrics and Epidemiology (Director: Prof. Dr. Oliver Kuß) is seeking a talented and highly-motivated individual to fill a

PhD student position (f/m/div.)

in the field of Nutritional and Diabetes Epidemiology.

The project focusses on the investigation of dietary factors and dietary patterns regarding diabetes-related complications.

 

Ihr Aufgabengebiet umfasst

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data from cohort studies to investigate the associations between dietary patterns, foods, and nutrients with risk of diabetes-related complications
  • Conduct systematic reviews and meta-analysis on this topic (e.g., literature screening, data extraction, risk of bias assessment, meta-analysis)
  • Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and present findings at national and international conferences

Wir erwarten von Ihnen

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition, Epidemiology, Public Health, Medicine or equivalent
  • Experience with data analysis and statistical software (R, SAS, or Stata)
  • First experience with systematic reviews and literature screening tools (e.g., Covidence)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in English
  • Strong interest in nutrition and diabetes research, with an understanding of epidemiology
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with a strong scientific interest
