The German Diabetes Center (DDZ) is the Leibniz Institute for Diabetes Research at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. The DDZ is an interdisciplinary research centre linking molecular and cell biological basic with clinical and epidemiological research approaches. The DDZ aims to develop new strategies for the prevention, early detection and diagnosis of diabetes mellitus and to improve therapy and treatment of its complications.

Epidemiologist (m/f/div.)

Your responsibilities
You will be responsible for conducting a project aiming to identify novel protein biomarkers associated with depressive symptoms in individuals newly diagnosed with diabetes. The project is based on data from the German Diabetes Study, which contains detailed information on diabetes sub-phenotypes, depressive symptoms and protein biomarkers. You will regularly report on your progress to the project’s PI Dr. Dr. Haifa Maalmi, and the head of the group Prof. Dr. Christian Herder.
The main tasks will be:
- Analysis of proteomic data (identification of protein clusters, visualization, modelling)
- Timely prepare a manuscript for publication
- In addition, you are expected to contribute to the research line within the team with analyses of other epidemiological data.
Wir erwarten von Ihnen
We expect
University degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field
- Knowledge of statistical methods and programming skills
- Excellent writing and communication skills in English
Desirable skills
- Experience in the analysis of OMICS data, ideally proteomics
- Experience and interest in diabetes or psychiatry
